Slapped back into reality - 1st week on OB/GYN 🐣

(technically week 2 has already come and gone but bear w me lol)

Back into the grind with one of the most intense rotations for MD3 - obstetrics & gynaecology and I’m defs feeling it with 6:20am wake-ups, and mad rushes out the door 20mins later. Mind you, this is also after being on vacation in Thailand for three weeks right before placement started with 9am natural wake ups 💀 - talk about a drastic circadian rhythm adaptation (altho I’m defs not helping with irregular sleep times and bed time procrastination…)

Also got chucked in the deep end when I didn’t have access to the online learning modules pre-placement and was just told to message your team’s reg about expectations before Day 1, so had to pluck up the courage and text a stranger on Australia Day, but thank god my reg was so chill and enthusiastic sounding (he was also irl so super lucky). My clinical buddy also caught gastro so just me a lost duckling trailing behind my reg and not understanding handover w the crazy amount of acronyms (didn’t think that could get worse but it did 🤣)

To add insult to injury, reproductive health has always been my weak point - by the time we were taught repro in MD1 my brain was already in overdrive and suffering from screen fatigue, so don't think they actually consolidated in my head - remembered just enough to pass. Then in MD2, barely needed any women or men's health apart from not forgetting ddx like ectopic pregnancies, testicular torsion etc for lower abdo pain, so barely revised this section of med, so ofc karma means I start the year with OG/GYN and have to constantly learn new content to actually have meaningful placement time (my inner monkey defs rebel against sitting down for long periods watching lectures so gotta find a more creative way to learn than last year 😑😑😑)

On the plus side, wasn't feeling super nervous or anxious going back to med and actually looking forward to pumping the year out 😊😊😊 Let's just hope I actually stick to my New Years Res' so at least I'm swimming if not thriving this year.

PS the new MD2s are so adorable with their innocence and excitement, having no idea how this year is gonna change them - literally by Day 2 I was debating if 10am is too early for a second cup of flat white and my MD4 friend straight up just decided to sleep on the couch in the student lounge, whereas all the MD2s were bustling away like working bees 😆

Coming back to placement after 2/12 summer vacay 💀
